Every BMW DME Is Now Unlocked In-House: Pre- and Post-06/2020, Same Day, Same Process
What changed
If you read our older DME unlock posts, you saw two separate paths. DMEs dated June 2020 or earlier were bench-unlocked here in the shop. Newer DMEs had to be shipped out to a third-party unlock partner, which added cost and several days of downtime.
That split is gone. As of August 2026, Tuning Dynamics unlocks eligible Bosch MG1 DMEs in-house, regardless of production date. Pre- and post-06/2020 units now go through the same process, at the same price, on the same day. Nothing gets shipped out.
Current pricing
Single-DME vehicles: $299. Most six-cylinder BMWs (B58, S58, S55, N55 and more), MINI Cooper S/JCW, and the Toyota GR Supra.
Twin-DME V8s: $550. Most N63/S63 platforms, including M5, M8, M550i and 750i. That's a $50 package savings over two single unlocks.
Unlocking removes the write protection so your tuning software can flash the DME. Tuning is a separate service unless you add it to your appointment.
How the unlock works
Identify. We verify the vehicle, ECU family, and software before any work begins.
Connect. We use the factory external harness pins. We don't open the DME, expose the board, or solder anything.
Unlock. We apply the bench unlock and OBD patch.
Validate. We reinstall the DME, verify it, and return the vehicle ready to flash or tune.
A local visit, from check-in to checkout, takes about 30 minutes.
Supported platforms
Bosch MG1 DMEs, pre- and post-06/2020: B46/B48, B58, S58, and N63/S63 twin-DME. That covers BMW 2, 3, 4 and 5 Series, M2/M3/M4, X3M/X4M and other eligible models, plus MINI Cooper S/JCW and Toyota GR Supra A90/A91.
After the unlock, your DME works with bootmod3, MHD, EcuTek, and MG Flasher wherever those platforms support your vehicle. Vitesco DME9 / Gen 3 systems are not supported. Every ECU is identified before service, so you'll know before we start.
Not local? Ship it to us
You can still mail in your DME. The difference now is that it stays with us: we unlock it in-house the same day it arrives and send it straight back. Contact us before shipping so we can confirm compatibility and give you packing instructions.
